Airport
Two prepaid taxi counters and a spa have just been inaugurated at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (http://www.hyderabad.aero/) at Shamshabad (25km from Begumpet). A/C buses (Aero Express, Rs 120) or cabs (Rs 600-700) from Easy Cabs (tel: (040) 4343 4343) and Meru Cabs (tel: (040) 4422 4422) get to the city in 1–1.5 hours, traffic permitting.

must try
One of the city’s oldest restaurants, Palace Heights (8th Floor, Triveni Complex, Abids, tel: (040) 2475 4939), is known for its ornate décor, service and multi-cuisine menu. Average dinner for two costs Rs 400.

must see
Ramoji Film City (near Hayathnagar on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada NH-9 Highway, tel: (958415) 246555/666, http://www.ramojifilmcity.com/) is the world’s largest film studio complex. Guided tours take you on a trip through various sets and locations used in hit Indian films.

must buy
Karachi brand mehendi (henna) cones at Rs 5 each, popular during Eid and weddings. Get them at Churi Bazaar.

must watch
The sound and laser show at Lumbini Park, a family-friendly picnic spot adjacent to Hussain Sagar lake, at 6:30pm and 8pm. Entry fee is Rs 2. The park is closed Mondays.

must stay
Athidhi Guest House (Valley View Apartments Road No. 13A, Happy Valley Off Road No. 13, Banjara Hills, tel: (040) 2331 2649, http://www.athidhiguesthouse.com/) has a warm ambience. From Rs 1,200 (single room) to Rs 1,500 (double room).
