Mangalore Restaurant Guide> Froth on Top

If there's any place in Mangalore that I would define as a cool hangout joint, then Froth on Top would be it. A small cottage turned pub cum cafe, Froth on Top is one such place in the whole of Mangalore or anywhere that I have been, including Goa, where you can relax indoors or outdoors (if you smoke) and have a great time with friends, family and the food and drinks are simply the best! There are no pesky and nuisance making crowd, the staff does not make you feel like an 'outsider' the way they do so famously in Goa and so I love this place. This is where we usually go on weekends and catch up after work and enjoy a hearty meal.

The interiors will remind you a bit of Cafe Mondegar in Mumbai, with the famous Goan cartoonist Mario Miranda's caricatured walls. Froth on Top has a similar wall decor (maybe by a Mario fan), where the artist does seem to have his/ her own style of caricature that captures the essence of Mangalore very well. By the time your food and drinks arrive, you can look at the walls and you'll know what a day in Mangalore feels like! But mind you, Froth on Top has a spacious seating arrangement both indoors and outdoors and is not as cluttered and noisy as Mondegar. (No offence meant, I love Mondy's, it's just that since I get to explore so much, it widens my outlook and gives me a new perspective).

Now coming to the food, the butter garlic squid and the pork chili are to die for and with tap beer or ice tea, this combo is fantastic. The next time you visit Mangalore and you're wondering where to go and grab a hearty bite that doesn't pinch the pocket at the same time, I recommend Froth on Top.

A meal for two consisting of an ice tea, tap beer, butter garlic squids, pork chili, chicken fried rice and chili chicken would come to around Rs. 650/-.

So what are you waiting for? Go to Froth on Top, be it for breakfast, brunch, lunch, evening snack or dinner and head straight to the movies, I can tell you, it's a day well spent.
